S.991 Establishes Uniform Language Testing Standard E-mail

As Americans have witnessed in recent days, there are bills brought before the Congress that attempt to hide their true intent.  Their authors try to conceal the worst elements by making their bills thousands of pages long and full of cryptic and ambiguous language.

But there are also bills written by authors who are proud of their work and wish their bills to be understood by all.  They write their bills using exacting language so the law that follows will leave little room for litigation.

Such is the case for S.991, the English Language Unity Act sponsored by Senator James Inhofe.  In a mere four pages this bill accomplishes much.   While it recognizes the rich cultural diversity of our population, it points out that “the common thread binding individuals of differing backgrounds has been the English language.”

S.991 declares English the official language of the United States and then requires the Federal Government to conduct its operations, including all laws, public proceedings, regulations, publications, orders, actions, programs, and policies, only in English.

It establishes a uniform language testing standard that requires anyone seeking citizenship to be “able to read and understand generally the English language text of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the laws of the United States made in pursuance of the Constitution.”  And, of course, it requires that “All naturalization ceremonies shall be conducted in English.”

The bill is specific and self-executing, meaning that it even explains when and how it will commence.  In short, S.991, the English Language Unity Act of 2009, is perfect and stands in sharp contrast to the cumbersome, unintelligible bills brought forth by some legislators.

Having reviewed this bill many times, I cannot imagine why any U.S. Senator wouldn’t jump at the opportunity of adding his or her name as a cosponsor of this remarkable bill.

The positive effects of this bill are enormous.  The establishment of a real language standard for naturalization could have a positive impact as well.  Future applicants would actually have to learn about our laws and our Constitution.  Non-English speakers would have to decide if they are willing to make the commitment to learn our language in order to become American citizens.

If our government doesn’t take citizenship seriously, why should the applicant?  Will you help me push this important bill?  Will you help me persuade your Senators to become cosponsors or explain to us why not?  This is the moment.  Even though the Democrats are in control of both chambers of Congress and control the White House, this is the moment.  Why?

Because most incumbents, Republican and Democrat, are scared to death about the next election.  The anger and frustration across the nation is alarming to them.  They are wondering what they can do to appease the angry voters.

They can vote for America by passing the English Language Unity Act, S.991.  And they will if you let them know how important this bill is to you. Please click here to send an email to your Senators.

If we all do our part, we can get it done.  Thank you for your continued support.

Bill Stops Bilingual Ballots; Prevents Illegal Voting E-mail
Did multilingual ballots and illegal alien voting determine who won close races in the last election?  Who knows for sure?  But what I can tell you, for certain, is that, every year, more and more Americans are having their votes cancelled out by tens of thousands of people unlawfully voting in federal elections.

Are you upset that your vote could be cancelled out by an unlawful voter and your government is doing nothing about it?  You ought to be.  Your right to vote is the only thing that keeps our government in check.  Without it, America would quickly become another country where the government rules – not serves – the people.

Although most of the nations of the world have an official language, the United States does not.  We never thought we would need one.  And, until a couple of decades ago, we didn’t.

America was known as the “melting pot.”   Immigrants from all different races, colors and nationalities, from every corner of the globe came to America for a better way of life.  They wanted to learn our language, our culture and our American way of life.  And that’s why America never bothered to make English our official language.

But now, things have changed.  Instead of immigrants adopting our way of life, today’s immigrants are demanding that we turn our country upside down to suit them!

H.R. 1228 Will Terminate Executive Order 13166 E-mail

Last month, I asked for your support of Senator Inhofe’s National Language Act, S.991.  It was the first step in our campaign to make English the official language of the United States.

And today I am asking you to help English First take the next major step by supporting Congressman Peter King’s H.R.1228, the bill that repeals former President Clinton’s Executive Order 13166.

The Inhofe and King bills, one in the House and one in the Senate, will do it all:

* They make English the official language of the United States;
* They eliminate the federal mandate that has forced government to squander billions on an effort to make America multilingual; and,
* They pave the way to reunite all Americans behind our common language, English, that has served our nation well for more than 200 years.

Timing Is Right To Pass The National Language Act E-mail

Please have your Senators contact Senator Joseph Lieberman and demand that he hold hearings on S.991, The National Language Act.

Last month, in Massachusetts, the radical wing of the Democratic Party got a serious wake-up call.  A seat that was owned by the Democratic Party actually called the “Kennedy” seat was lost to a relatively unknown Republican challenger.   Right now, Senate Democrats are worried and, I imagine, eager to convince the voters in their states that they are willing to get off their high horses and actually pay attention to the demands of an angry citizenry.  In short, the time to push for popular issues is right now.  And one of the most popular issues English First has been working on is Senator Inhofe’s National Language Act, S.991.

In prior sessions, Senator Inhofe’s bill was approved more than once, by a huge majority of all Senators.  Unfortunately, the only way we were able to get it to the Senate floor for a vote was by turning it into an amendment and sneaking it onto a bill that was being “fast tracked” through the Senate.  The arrogant Democratic leadership, people like Majority Leader Harry Reid, would not even allow Senator Inhofe’s bill to get through the committee process so it could be debated and brought to the floor for a vote.
